Dr Brar was born and raised in Calgary. He went to medical school at the University of Alberta and completed his Family Medicine Residency at the University of Calgary. After completing his residency he worked in a variety of settings including as a Hospitalist at the Peter Lougheed Hospital, the Airdrie Urgent Care Centre, an attending physician at Sarcee Hospice and various family practice clinics in the Calgary and Airdrie region. He has a keen interest in occupational medicine and is now an Associate of the Canadian Board of Occupational Medicine. He continues to practice as a family doctor at the Airdrie Medical Clinic while still spending a significant amount of his time in occupational medicine. He enjoys teaching and frequently has residents and students with him and has an academic appointment as a Clinical Lecturer with the University of Calgary Cummings School of Medicine. His philosophy with family practice is trying to work with his patients to improve their lifestyles focusing on diet, exercise and mental well being to try to reach not only their health goals but their life goals.
Outside of work Dr Brar enjoys spending time outside whether that be running, rollerblading, skiing or hiking. He is an avid sports fan both as a fan as well as playing basketball and hockey. Dr Brar enjoys reading both medical literature as well as various fiction and non-fiction books.
